Pergi Untuk Kembali
Wednesday, June 29th, 2005The song kept on playing in my head as I left Jakarta on Tuesday night.
Despite Jakarta being busy, full of people, endless traffic jams with kamikaze motorcyclists, I have to admit, it has it’s own charms. One end of the spectrum, poor people begging on the streets, and at the other end, beautiful bungalow houses (with very small or non existent lawns) occupied by the rich.
Life in Jakarta is tough for both the poor and the rich. I would say that is what they have in common. Life for the poor, is tough as they struggle to get by with what little they have. And well, for the rich, the price they have to pay for being rich, can be a struggle at times.
My trip to Jakarta became a homecoming of some sorts. The Indonesian side of my family who lived in Jakarta gave me a huge welcome. Well, there goes my plan for a quiet break in Jakarta. Well, I was rather tired, but somehow their excitement gave me the strength to meet them, and enjoy a lot of catching up over kopi bubuk. And of course, teh botol. With various different type of food from bakso, gado-gado to even gudeg. Till now, I still do not understand how a Minang can actually enjoy a Javanese delicacy….
Surprisingly, I noticed that many of the family members in Indonesia share the same looks like my family members in Malaysia. One of my cousin looks like my dad, and his son looks like my brother, only my brother is thinner. Well, that just prove that we are related… despite the distance.
Fortunately, I still managed to get some quality time with my cousin and her hubby who always fuss over me, despite her tight schedule. Best thing is, I will be seeing them real soon. And of course, to Asta, thanks for the treat at Plaza Blok M. Next will be at KL, teh tarik and nasi lemak, which is similar to nasi uduk. And by the way, enggak bisa lari dari orang Silungkang ya? ![]()
The song by Ello sure fits the blog, pergi untuk kembali…..I might be back in Jakarta again soon.
